The Michigan offices of UHY Advisors, a professional tax and advisory services firm, and UHY LLP, a certified public accounting firm, have gone green this past tax season by filing and sending out ninety-five percent of their returns electronically.
There will be no more overflowing file cabinets of old tax returns, just neatly organized, hassle-free electronic files. In an effort to “go green”, the firm’s accountants have decided that paperless returns are the way to go. The decision to go paperless was not a difficult one. “Going paperless is much more efficient and saves us a great deal on paper,” said Pat Gregory, Managing Director of UHY Advisors MI, Inc. “Many clients were already requesting their returns in electronic form, so going paperless was a logical step,” added Todd Bensley, Managing Director and National Tax Director.
The firm set up a process where the administrative professionals burned copies of the returns onto CD’s for each client. The feedback received extremely positive. “A number of clients prefer the electronic copies over paper, because their file cabinets are getting full of old returns. Electronic copies take up much less space,” commented Bensley. “Plus, most of them were scanning and saving their paper files and making their own electronic copies anyways, so this just saved them a step.”
UHY plans to continue their “Going Green” efforts by continuing to provide their clients with electronic copies of their tax returns indefinitely and will further brainstorm new ideas to help improve client service.
