The Ohio Department of Taxation is offering a limited time tax amnesty program. This will run from Jan. 1 - Feb. 15, 2018 and will allow relief from penalties and savings of 50 percent on interest charges. If you had unreported or underreported taxes that were due as of May 1, 2017, this is an opportunity to become current with tax liabilities in Ohio. Eligible individuals and businesses are those that have not been contacted by the Department.

Requirements to apply for the program are as follows:

  • A completed and signed application;
  • Completed and signed tax return(s);
  • Full payment (credit cards not accepted);
  • If filing for a business that is not currently registered with the state, submission of a taxpayer registration form is required.

A letter from the Department will provide whether your application has been approved or denied. Amnesty can be denied for the following reasons:

  • The application submitted was for taxes that do not qualify for amnesty;
  • Eligible taxes were not due and payable as of May 1, 2017;
  • The Department has already issued an assessment notice for taxes on the application;
  • The Department has already started an audit of the taxes for which you have requested amnesty, or
  • Failure to include a completed application, returns and full payment.
